"Deutsch für den Schulstart" ("German in preparation for school enrollment")

"Deutsch für den Schulstart" ("German in preparation for school enrollment") is a support program to promote language development among multi- and monolingual children with language and communication deficits both before and after school enrollment. This program encompasses extensive learning materials to promote the development of linguistic competence as part of a systematic linguistic and didactic approach. It promotes vocabulary, compound word formation, story comprehension and phonological conditioning in preparation for literacy. A diagnostic procedure, which is part of the program, enables entry into the program at a level that is appropriate for each individual child.

This language promotion program is directed at children from the ages of four to seven and envisions two variations oriented both on the cognitive development level of the child and the scholastic context (pre-school versus school):

  • the pre-school version, in which the language promotion material has a playful character;
  • the elementary school version (1st and 2nd grades), which integrates school-specific learning tasks and assignments, is designed to facilitate literacy development.
